Through Personalized Prescribing Inc., Equitable offers pharmacogenomic testing for group benefits plan members who have been diagnosed with a mental health condition. Eligible dependants can also access the service.
What is a pharmacogenomic test?
A pharmacogenomic test determines how your body is expected to respond to certain drugs.
How can a pharmacogenomic test help me?
Patients with mental health conditions often try several drugs before they find one that works for them. This can lead to negative side effects or a delayed recovery. A pharmacogenomic test can help avoid this treatment trial and error.
You will receive an Rx Report™ that you can share with your doctor within 7 to 10 business days of submitting your test. The report will include details to help your doctor prescribe the right drug and dose for you.
Your test results are completely confidential. Neither your employer nor Equitable will receive a copy of the report.
How much does a pharmacogenomic test cost?
Equitable plan members and eligible dependants, who have received a mental health condition diagnosis, can purchase a test for a discounted price of $479 plus HST.
If your employer provides pharmacogenomic testing through your Equitable benefits plan, you may be eligible to have some, or all of the testing cost reimbursed. Check your group benefits booklet to confirm your coverage.
Health-care spending accounts (HCSAs) can also cover the costs of pharmacogenomic testing.
Do patients have to pay for the shipment?
No, the shipment charge is included in the purchase.
How long does the test analysis take?
It takes 7–10 business days to complete the analysis after we receive the swab sample at our laboratory.
Am I eligible for a test?

Rx Report™ is a pharmacist-assisted genetic drug compatibility test offered by Personalized Prescribing Inc. to identify the most effective medications with the fewest side effects.
The website price is $549 plus HST. However, some insurance companies cover the test. If purchased using the insurance company’s web portal, the price is $479 plus HST.
After purchasing a test, the patient will receive a DNA sample kit. The kit includes instructions for collecting the sample. Once the patient has collected a sample, they can use the prepaid envelope included with the kit to send the sample to our lab via Canada Post.
Patients should follow the instructions they receive with the DNA sample kit. They should also keep the following recommendations in mind:
- Do not eat or drink for 30 minutes before collecting the sample; and
- Brush teeth 30 minutes before collecting the sample.
The Personalized Prescribing Inc. pharmacist will send the patient a summary report via email. The patient will also receive a link with their unique log-in ID and password, so they can view their genetic report.
The genetic test analysis is 99.99% accurate. The interpretation of the test results is done by our pharmacists. They use the latest scientific publications and evidence available in various scientific platforms to interpret the test results and provide recommendations.
Rx Report™ test is supported by scientific evidence available on multiple health sciences platforms such as PharmGKB, Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The tests analyze up to 58 genes and 106 genetic variations.
